Developing a Cost-Effective Risk Mitigation Plan for New and Existing Constructed Facilities

چکیده
Protecting constructed facilities from damages from natural and man-made hazards in a costeffective manner is a challenging task. Several measures of economic performance are available for evaluating building-related investments. These measures include, but are not limited to, life-cycle cost, present value net savings, savings-to-investment ratio, and adjusted internal rate of return. This guide provides a generic framework for assessing the risks associated with natural and man-made hazards, formulating combinations of risk mitigation strategies for constructed facilities exposed to those hazards, and using measures of economic performance to identify the most cost-effective combination of strategies.

Developing a conceptual model based upon the Latin Hypercube Sampling for integrating OHS into project risk evaluation
Abstract Project management in construction industry, in many cases, is imperfect with respect to the integration of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) risks. This imperfection exhibits itself as complications affecting the riskiness of industrial procedures and is illustrated usually by poor awareness of OHS within project teams. Difficulties on OHS regularly came about in the construction i...
متن کاملElimination of Waste and Inefficient Facilities in Existing Buildings for Sustainability in Developing Nations
A major reason why many developing nations have not made significant advancement in sustainable development (SD) agenda is the neglect of existing building stock which forms the bulk of built assets. Although sustainable development is a universal challenge, it cannot be approached in the same way for all nations, but rather practical response can be defined nationally or locally. This paper re...
متن کاملThe Reliable Hierarchical Location-allocation Model under Heterogeneous Probabilistic Disruptions
This paper presents a novel reliable hierarchical location-allocation model where facilities are subject to the risk of disruptions. Based on the relationship between various levels of system, a multi-level multi-flow hierarchy is considered. The heterogeneous probabilistic disruptions are investigated in which the constructed facilities have different site-dependent and independent failure rat...
متن کاملSevere Wind Gust Risk for Australian Capital Cities – A National Risk Assessment approach
A review commissioned in June 2001 by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) entitled 'Natural Disasters in Australia: reforming mitigation, relief and recovery arrangements' concluded that a new approach to natural disasters in Australia was needed. This approach would aim to achieve safer, more sustainable Australian communities in addition to a reduction in risk, damage and losses from...
متن کاملEstimating post- and pre-mitigation contingency in construction
Contingency is necessary to mitigate and control risk associated with construction projects. Successful contingency estimation and risk mitigation strategies can help project managers to effectively control cost and schedule. Some practitioners mitigate risk by transferring it to another party with less effort and minimum cost. However, this may lead to undesirable results such as; useless depl...
